June 2024 Update

With the Carleton school year coming to a close last week, and the end of the fiscal year upon us, the Carleton Ultimate Fund (CUF) wanted to send an update about some exciting recent and upcoming events and opportunities. Check them out below and hit up the CUF Board with any questions. And good luck to everyone competing in all the different frisbee leagues and divisions in the coming months — we hope to see you out on the field this summer!

$10K Matching Challenge through June 30

A generous anonymous donor has offered a $10,000 donation to CUF, and we would like to more than double its impact by the end of the fiscal year! All lump sum donations made until 6/30/2024 will be matched 100%, doubling your contribution. And, any new monthly donors or increases in existing monthly donation amounts will be matched 400%. That means a new $25/month donation would release $100 in matching funds! Your donations help fund the cost of competing at the Division I level (CUF provided $30,000 to each team for the 2024 season) and have helped build the Carleton Ultimate Endowment to more than $200,000. Let’s keep it going!

Alumni Weekend 2024

This year’s Alumni Weekend was another great success with great weather to go with it! Fricket was played, items were auctioned, memories were made and reminisced, and both alumni teams managed to beat their talented younger counterparts in the annual scrimmages. We even saw the Northern Lights over campus. We’re already looking forward to next year and hope to see you there!

2024 College Nationals

CUT and Syzygy competed at D1 College Nationals in Madison, WI over Memorial Day Weekend. Both teams battled through adverse weather conditions and delays to cap off their seasons representing Carleton on the biggest stage! CUT notched a win against Ottawa in their final game of the tournament, and Syzygy made their fifth straight appearance in quarter finals!

Both of Carleton’s D3 teams, CHOP and Eclipse, also competed at D3 College Nationals the previous weekend in Milwaukee, with Eclipse taking home a second place finish 🥈

D3 Inclusion in CUF

The CUF Board is thrilled to welcome the D3 teams CHOP and Eclipse to the Carleton Ultimate Fund. The D3 teams will begin raising donor funds this summer as a subcommittee of the Board. These funds will be strictly for use in supporting and promoting D3 ultimate frisbee, and will not intermingle with funds raised for D1 ultimate frisbee (and vice versa). During the course of the next fiscal year, the Board and subcommittee will decide on the best long term “back office” structure for independent D1 and D3 fundraising under the CUF umbrella. We’re really excited about this progress, and look forward to the opportunity for broader partnership with our teams and alumni networks to strengthen Carleton’s ultimate community. Stay tuned for more updates as the D3 activities get off the ground in the coming months.

Welcoming New CUF Members

We’re excited to welcome Emma Nicosia (2017) and Clay Preheim (1999) to CUF! They bring a lot of wisdom and enthusiasm to our ranks and we’re thrilled to have them on board. We’d also like to thank outgoing board members Jacob, Joe, Linnea, and Simon for their service to CUF!

CUF Youth Coaching Grants

Are you coaching a youth team this summer or upcoming fall? Don’t forget that CUF provides small stipends and CUT/Syzygy jerseys to support your coaching efforts and to help us recruit the next generation of talented players to Carleton. Complete the form
